What is The Society for Human Resource Management?

The Society for Human Resource Management (SHRM) is the largest professional association in the world devoted exclusively to human resource management. The Ole Miss Society for Human Resource Management (Chapter 5115) is one of over 300 student chapters nationwide, and is closely affiliated with the Northeast Mississippi HR Association (Chapter 196) http://www.workplus.com/nemshra, the professional chapter in Tupelo, MS. The student chapter is intended to allow those students interested the field of human resource management to go beyond the classroom and interact with human resource, personnel and industrial relations professionals. Students are afforded a unique opportunity to interact with the real world of human resources through participation with the local professional chapter. This is accomplished through guest speakers, shadow programs, and internships. http://www.shrm.org/

Additionally, the national SHRM foundation offers competitive graduate and undergraduate scholarships, as well as numerous student awards for chapter members who are HR majors. Eligible students may also sit for the Human Resource Certification Institute's basic examination and be certified Professional in Human Resources (PHR) upon successful completion of the exam and after gaining the requisite work experience.

Membership is open to all undergraduate and graduate students who are:

1. Interested in human resource management (HRM),

2. Are enrolled in at least six (6) semester hours in a degree seeking program, and

3. Who have taken or plan to take coursework that supports a demonstrated interest in HRM (MGMT 383, MGMT 484, MGMT 485, MGMT 494, MGMT 527, MGMT 581, MGMT 582, MGMT 583, MGMT 585, MGMT 581 MGMT 673, or MGMT 675).
